BMC sinks into P100 million loss

Botswana  Meat Commission(BMC) has registered a loss of P106 million during the year 2021 after a slight profit of P3.5 million in 2020.

Answering a parliamentary question this past week Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Molebatsi Molebatsi said the commission has however started the year 2022 on a high note slaughtering 3029 cattle compared to 561 same period in 2021 raking in P20.1 million in revenue from meat sales, against P11.4 million same period in 2020.

Molebatsi further told parliament Botswana Meat Commission debt to Government stands at over P1.3 billion having accumulated from capital injections that Government pumped in over the years to keep the commission afloat.

BMC has been without a substantive Chief Executive Officer since the exit of Akolang Tombale over 5 years ago, Molebatsi revealed to Parliament that the recruitment process is complete with the preferred candidate awaiting cabinet approval end of this month.
