In June 2021, Botswana’s total imports were valued at P 7,635,568,793.5 (over P7.6 billion).
In this amount, food imports contributed P 839,112,300.5, ( over P839 million) translating to 11.0 percent.
Cereals accounted for 17.6 percent of food imports, followed by Beverages, Spirits & Vinegar and Sugars & Sugar Confectionery with 13.1 percent and 11.4 percent respectively.
The most imported types of Cereals during this period were Maize (corn), other than seed with a contribution of 39.2 percent followed by Wheat & Muslin, other than Durum Wheat, other than seed with a contribution of 18.9 percent.
“Beer; made from malt” contributed 35.5 percent to Beverages, Spirits & Vinegar; followed by “Beverages, Fermented; (e.g. Cider, Perry, Mead, Sake)” at 26.4 percent.
