We are serious about hosting AFCON 2027- Rakgare

Ministry in charge of Sports, Youth Culture Tumiso Rakgare says Government is unmoved on its ambitious goal to see the Africa Cup of Nations Games hosted in Botswana come 2027.

Speaking in a televised press briefing this morning Minister Rakgare says Botswana will bid to host the highest sporting tournament inthe continent that brings elite soccer stars playing inthe world’s  top leagues to showcase their talent on their national colours in African soil.

Rakgare said should Botswana succeed in this, massive economic boost would come to the country.

“We want to diversity the economy with sports and sports tourism, hosting the AFCON games would inject some life to our tourism and hospitality industries, support our SMMEs, grow our sports, media and put Botswana inthe global stage” he said.

Rakgare explained that Botswana will be going all out to bid for the AFCON 2027 games. ” We will see our roads, infrastructure and sports facilities upgraded and this will benefit generations to come”
